The new "Adobe Standard beta 1" profile provides a much better starting point than ACR 4.4 did. The K20D (and other Pentax models) are included within this profile.

I've just started playing around with shooting the MacBeth Color Checker in various lighting/lens combos (like indoors, with overcast light coming in the windows, sunny light coming in the windows, outside under overcast and sunny skies, and normal indoor lighting here at home as well as the studio lighting in the studio) and already made custom profiles using the new profile editor. I shot in PEF, then used the free DNG converter tool to convert them into DNG's then made profiles (really, it only took me a few minutes to make a bunch of those profiles) Not sure if I'm over-doing it with all the different lighting setups and profiles, but I wanted to play around with the process and see how it works. So far, very quick and easy to make the various profiles, and a simple re-launch of Photoshop or Lightroom and the new profiles show up in the menu. The only ones I've really tested so far were the ones in the studio under that lighting, with the FA77, FA43 and the DA*50-135 (all 3 lenses have a slight difference in color to begin with) and they all have the same color now, if I select the appropriate custom profile now. I have to say, very nice, works real well, and it is a free download from Adobe!

I tried the Adobe Standard on some of my photos (using LR2) and pretty quickly went back to using ACR 4.4.

I think they just went too far in the opposite direction - for example, I have a photo of an orange car and Adobe Standard makes it look completely red. A few family photos that include a red couch look completely unnatural.

If only they included some Pentax profiles to match the output from the OEM tool (ie, Silkypix), like they did for C/N...
