I wasn't the photographer, I was actually one of the groomsmen

As I needed maximum portability, everything was shot with my K10D using the FA 50mm 1.4 lens.

It was actually a lot of fun to rely on moving forward and back to frame the picture throughout the day. I still filled up my 2gb card though and had to chimp away to make room. Here are a few that I finished processing.

I really love the second image. How did you colorize the couple and leave the rest of the image to black and white. The affect is outstanding.

Thanks. That was one of the pictures I had in my mind before actually taking it.

In Photoshop, I added a hue/saturation adjustment layer to desaturate the entire picture. Added a layer mask to that adjustment layer, brushed in the areas I wanted color with black on the mask.

Then I added a 2nd hue/saturation adjustment layer to desaturate the entire image (won't do anything additional to the already B&W areas) and desaturated till I got that pale look.

Yikes... I think they might be regretting paying a photographer when they see these!

This is a very poetic interpretation of the wedding scenes. Tasteful yet sensitive. I enjoy the arrangment of points of interests in these photopgraphs.

The 2nd shot reveals more mood by not showing the faces of the couple. Instead, the posture tell it all. The desaturated background bring out the emphasis on the couple very well.

Lots of inspirations for me to learn from.

Great shots

Nice work AVANT ... I am hoping for my FA50 to be in ready for the friend's wedding.
These shots have inspired me ... and now I can't wait to have fun with the camera.

I also need another memory card as well (after shooting my last series in RAW ... i realised how much memory it really goes through.

Nice series ... and well done on getting "some" shots as a groomsmen as well ... I know how quick a wedding goes (As I just got married last year myself).

Have to agree with everyone here, these are nice shots. I like the first one best though.
I also appreciate that they look darker than regular wedding shots, which, for some reason, always seem to be oh-so-light and white. Colors are richer this way.

Surprisingly... I saw their engagement pictures and was very unimpressed. Poor choice of lighting (Bright ambient background, dark faces... needed a reflector immensely) and exposure was often incorrect.

Sadly, it was a packaged deal so they were at the wedding as well. I heard the main photographger still shoots JPGs. Hopefully they do decent PP work as it's the end results that matter... but judging by their engagement pics... I'm not expecting much.

I have to agree, those several hours go by pretty fast. You won't regret using the FA50, the big aperture gives you lots more room to play with (low light and narrow depth of field). I actually didn't think I would've needed more than 1 card since I was in the wedding... stupid me, should have prepared better.

The winner #2

Your second shot is so AWESOME!!!

It is so simple just it truely tells a story of what is happening. With the couple being colored in it brings a soft highlight to them as if they are the only people in the room..

VERY VERY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
