How could I have bettered?

I could not sleep, so I headed out with my K10D - outfitted with my FA-50mm, this morning at about 5am, and thought that I'd grab a few. There is nothing particularly interesting about these two shots, and I just took them to get some feedback as to how I 'might' have shot them. I am just trying to get some practice in, for night shots, for the times when there will be something important that I'd desire to capture. They are both JPEGs, with just a resizing done. The first is included here, and the second will follow in the next post.
