T87 Tatra
Lens: Sigma 28-80 Camera: K 2000 Photo Location: Slovakia
Posted By: usn ret, 01-27-2012, 10:21 PM

I spotted this ride at a rest stop/fueling station in Slovakia and could not resist taking a couple of shots. This car is unique in that it was designed in 1938 but a little war got in the way of production for a few years. Rear engine aluminum and magnesium, aircooled V8. There are many more facts that can be filled in by those more knowledgeable of these cars.........Enjoy...Cliff

Hi

I believe they where the first cars with "wrap around windscreens". I have seen a few still driving in Europe.

Greetings

Fascinating - I dimly remember reading about the Tatra, but I don't think I've ever seen a picture of one.

Thanks guys for the kind comments. There are two of these in Los Angeles, Jay Leno and another collector not as recognizable. And are becoming quite the collectible probably because of its uniqueness. Still an interesting leagcy. The Tatra Co dates back into the 19th century producing cars, coaches, etc. Took a break for WWII and resumed production after the war. The T87 would have been produced in old Czechoslovakia. I guess you could say production has covered Czech bistory for nearly a century. Thanks for looking!! Cliff

Thanks Charlie, the car is definitely an attention getter, as production was around 3500 units. the rareness and unique design of the car will continue drive up the price......TFL.. Cliff

I hear this car was favored amongst German officers during WW2 and since it was very fast deadly accidents were common so they were eventually forbidden to drive it.
