The Huntington Museum
Lens: Various Camera: K-5 Photo Location: San Marino CA

The Huntington museum was the site for a recent meet-up. The grounds have themed gardens (desert, Japanese, etc.) and many statues. There is a library with the largest collection outside of the National Archives, an arboretum with rain forest, rose gardens, and a couple art galleries.

Here are some interior items.

I'm guessing this is a harpsichord, not a piano, because it is from 1773.

Various knick-knacks.

Tapestry.

Little men.

Chairs from 1823. Painting is "Salisbury Cathedral from the Bishops' Grounds", 1823-26, by John Constable.

Ceramics.

Works by Shakespeare and others.

Gutenberg bible (one of two volumes) from about 1455.

"Pinkie" by Thomas Lawrence, 1794. She died about a year later, aged 12, from whooping cough.

"The Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough, about 1770. The artist painted over something already started.

I am very surprised they allow photographs inside, it has been years, but a great place to visit.

Really nice to see! The harpsichord is beautifull! Do you know how many books they have in the library? And, do you have any photos from outside?

Beautiful place. I once wrote a reference to enable one of my students to get a reader's ticket to the library. But even though I was qualified to write the reference, I was not qualified to allow my friend to take me into the library when I visited. I really enjoyed that day, spent appreciating the museum and garden and discussing the application of 20th century continental philosophy to engineering design.

Some very nice shots there, restrictions aside it is great to see a museum letting photography happen. We have a few in Oz that just won't allow it at all.
