An Illustration - or - Fun with CS3

Did a little 'doodling' with CS3 this morning ...

Here is what I started with, an old Buick Eight taken last year with my K10D in very stark sunlight - I think it's a 1952 Buick Eight Roadmaster ...

and here is the result of about 30 minutes of 'doodling'

I like the result. Looks like an illustration from the 50's

Anybody else have some 'illustrations' to share here?

I start with a very heavy noise reduction applied more than once, then some tone mapping via shadow and highlight control. Basically then just fiddle with the image until I get the effect I want. I do not use actions so each image will be a unique expression. I hope!

That's all? No fancy filters for painting effects? Very Impressive, I am even more a novice with Photoshop than I am with photography.

All right...where's the step-by-step tutorial? This is too good to not teach the rest of us. That is one fantastic image. Betcha it would look great printed out on some canvas paper.

I have a mate here in Darwin Australia that likes old cars and loves what you've done with those 2 pics. He has a 1950s Holden that he'd like to see done up this way. Do you want to have a go at it?? PM me and I'll try and get a high res image of it emailed to you. I can think of quite a few photos that I've got kiching around that could do with your approach so it's made me consider trying to have more of a play with photoshop.
