Candle - part of my 'In my house" collection

I've decided it would be really cool to set up a display of photos in my house of different things in my house (if that makes any sense).

So anyway, it sure makes you look around your normal surroundings with a different perspective. Here's a shot of a candle on my coffee table.

shutter: 1/6
aperture: f/4.5
focal length: 45mm
ISO 800, hand-held, no flash
K100D, kit 18-55 lens

PP: I sharpened a bit, converted to "antique grayscale" (I really love this effect), and increased contrast. The color photo just looked a little boring, and I really liked the subject. I think the color effect looks really nice, especially with the contrast a bit over the top, but that's definitely a personal preference.

I could have wiped the "fuzzies" off the top of the candle, though

For the rest of my "things in my house" set, go here.

Thoughts?? I'm really having a lot of fun with my new K100D, though I have to send it back today for an exchange - hot/dead pixel. Hopefully they'll be speedy with the return so I can get back to shooting.

There are so many things around the house that are of photo interest to keep us busy on those days when we cannot get out.

How about a thread of "Common household objects from a different perspective" or some such title?

Sounds very cool with this thread.

Does someone want to start a thread like this or we just continue posting via here?

Brian, the candles did carry the "weathered" looks. Artistic

Very nice shot Brian. I know it wasn't your intension, but it would have been perfect if the candle had been lit. But I really like the conversion.
Cheers.

I looked at them differently because the lighting did to the candle body what the lighted wick would do, causing the top glow.
I thought that came off rather well.
Light without burning, if you will.

Hopefully you'll get your camera back soon, Brian.

I'm contemplating a project pretty similar to yours. However, I'm going to try to unite my photos of different objects {edit: not furniture, or things around the house--uniting the hodge podge I've got would be impossible!} into a series through my processing of the images. Does that make sense? For example, an artsy buddy of mine took a series of shots with a Holga and a red colored filter--so the uniting feature is that they were all very red.

Anyway, just something to think about.

I like the idea as well, and don't be surprised if I do something similar in the next month if I get the new pad that I want

No problem with me if we just keep posting here on this theme. . .

Thanks for all the compliments!!

Here's another "thing in my house" - it's a centerpiece on our dining table.

In color:

And in Antique Grayscale:

Here's something all of us will recognize:
