unexpected moment

Here's one of my 18 month old. I thought the moment was pretty cool, so I went to work in photoshop:

1) A "blue" layer on the left, and a "green" layer on the right, both developed separately in camera raw, then opened in PS. I blended the two w/ a diagonal gradient mask

2) A third B&W layer on the top (greyscale from camera raw, seasoned extra crunchy) blended in normal mode, at about 40%, w/ selective masking to "paint in" desaturation on her face and arms (thanks to Benjikan for that method). I also desaturated the blue in the "whites" of her eyes.

3) A "midtone sharpening" step, using a high pass layer, blended in "vivid light" mode, w/ "blend if" sliders set to 50, 100, 150, 200 (got that from the "CS3 for photographers" book). I painted it off of her skin but selectively painted it onto the water droplets.

For some reason, I had the song "Perfect Way" by Scritti Politti going through my head while PP'ing. Hope 'ya dig it (as you can see, I did, so I made it my avatar).

John

Terrific capture. What does the original shot look like. On my monitor, your beautiful daughter as a light purple cast on her left side.

How's everything in Nashville?

Here's the original, followed by the first blue to green fade. As you can see, with the final image I toned down the colors a bit w/ the desat layer, but I wanted to keep some of the original color contrast. Oh, and everything's great in Nashvegas!

Very slick. The effect is pronounced, I like it. The final product kinda give the eyes that sense of mischief - not sure I like that.

I happen to know a guy named Eric in ChattaVegas. Weird.
