Managed to buy a Tamron Pz-AF MC4 1.4X Teleconverter from a local Pentax user, so took it out for testing. The result is not bad on a Vivitar S1 105mm.

Very impressive Zeek. You gotta be happy with the combo?

Thx^^ Ya I'm happy with it. It's slightly sharper than my other butterfly combo, which is the Vivitar 105mm + Olympus TCON-17 1.7x. These are taken with Vivitar 105mm + TCON-17combo last year.

They look great and the combo holds up well. Nice work. where do you find all the different species? Not sure what to think about that title

Thx. The combos give me an extra reach for taking those occasional butterfly shots^^ The title just cause I was feeling cheeky. In Singapore we have 284 species, some rare ones will appear at different time of the year. IIRC, about 35-50 common species all year round.

Been a while since I ID them, hope I got these right^^;

#1 Short-Banded Sailor
#2 Common Tit
#3 Ciliate Blue
#4&5 Common Dartlet

Vivitar 105mm + T-CON17
#1&2 Common Imperial
#3 Bush Hopper

Never thought of using my tcon 17 with my dslr. Heck I have the Nikon 14b that is an outstanding teleconverer that I should see if I can match up. I probably have the step rings around to fit on one of my lenses. Hmmm...now you got me thinking and wondering...
Thanks for sharing your butterfly images. Impressive work. I usually just chase them around the yard getting no images. lol I know, the best way is to sit by a food plant and wait...but I'm not very patient. I need to learn better patience for sure.

Thx^^ I tend to like using what I have, I'd tested Tamron 90mm Di with TCON-17 at f2.8, the result is not bad. Some IQ lost but it gives u a f2.8 speed with a much longer reach.

It takes patience but you also need to understand butterflies. Like some those small/tiny butterflies, you can appraoch them really near even touching them when they are feeding on flower. Normal and large butterflies you'll have higher success rate if u apprach them face on without moving sideways. I recall it's due to their vision or something like that
