A Day at the Zoo
Posted by rayallen, 08-01-2008, 06:16 PM rayallen is offline

Here is a selection of shots taken at Sydney's Taronga Zoo back in June.
Equipment used was a K10D plus either a DA 50-200 or a Tamron 70-300 LD Di.
It was my first time out with the Tamron.
I have been around this forum since I got my K10D but these are the first images I have shown.

A cuddly Koala

Western Lowland Gorilla

Sea Eagle

Falcon

I don't know what bird this is!

This is a resting Pelican. Almost unrecognisable.

Exif data is intact.

Looks like a fun day. That sea Eagle is cool I never heard of them before.

How funny, I shot some photos of the bird in your second to last image on Tuesday when I went to the zoo. I don't know the name either, I'll have look it up on my next visit and find out for sure. Very nice images you have here. That falcon is particularly nice. I appreciate you taking the time to share them. I love shooting zoo images myself. Since I cannot afford to travel to places I might see wild animals, I can pretend while I'm at the zoo.

Thanks, LaRee. I would be interested to know what that bird is.

The falcon and the sea eagle were part of the Free Flight Bird Show. They could have flown away if they wanted to but, obviously, they choose not to.

This is the wonderful view one has while waiting for and watching the bird show. Not bad, huh? And that was on a very overcast day [I did tweak the image a bit to brighten it a little.]

Thanks, Jimbo. There are large numbers of pelicans around where I live but I have never seen one in that pose before. I was with two friends that day and we took many shots of that character. The other guys were using a C*non and a N*kon so their shots were probably not as good as mine!!
