Bear shooting
Posted by PePe, 08-06-2008, 01:15 PM PePe is offline

Doing a backup on my computer I came across a folder I had not even opened for a while.

Couple of years ago I spent some time in the wilderness in north-eastern Finland keeping an eye on the true natives of the region
Needles to say, every precaution was taken to stay on very friendly terms with them... This trip turned out to be a truly fascinating, albeit tiring experience. Bears being nocturnal animals, lack of sleep was building up quickly. After two consecutive sleepless nights I came back from the forest, exhausted but happy with hundreds of shots in my bag.

Bears - especially males - spend most of their time in solitude, but they do have a fascinating social codex. The big elderly male in the first picture (we nicknamed him Scarface) was obviously the king of the neighborhood. This summer I heard the younger dark male of the second picture has seized his throne, but Scarface is still said to be around.

Beautiful Bear shots in their natural habitat. Nicely done. Nice story as well (I think I would also sleep with one eye open)

Well done PePe! I like the first one best! Is there actually two bears in that image?

Thank you guys for the kind comments !

Yes Gawan, there is another bear in the background. Probably the dark male of the second picture.
The first night in the forrest was full of activity. We spotted some 13 individual bears, many of them several times.
Here some more of the same bunch.

Two very nice sets, the last one in each set would be my favourites.
Thanks for posting them and do take care,
