It's all your fault JMR

First you post an image reminding us autumn is coming. Then you do it in the Orton style which sent me running to my files looking for a photo to try it on. Lo and behold the only one that seemed to work at all is one that reminds us what follows autumn!

Comments on the style would be greatly appreciated.

Great colour and contrast. Good leading line and foreground interest.

That's pretty good. The more I think of it, the more I realize the technique works best on images with soft muted light or overcast skies. It is not so much the contrast within the scene but the quality of light itself that renders the image suitable for this technique. This is just a general observation on my part and the technique may very well work with many other kinds of images.

I'm doing great. Learning new stuff all the time. Getting close to rutting season up here. If you ever get the urge to try your hand at some moose shots I'd love to act as your local guide.

The moose comment reminds me of a time I went canoe camping in Algonquin Park, which is quite large (just go look on Google Maps or something - it's in E. Ontario). I was walking through the water, pulling the canoe and then her head popped up from feeding... maybe 10 feet from me!!! That was enough to make me freeze in my tracks, uh mud.... I had to stop moving or crouch and slowly move, since I knew their eyesight is not that great.

I didn't realize she was there at first - she was behind a stand of trees! Here I am trying to slowly get out of there... luckily it was rutting season, or I might have been boxed in between her and a bull....

I am headed up to the Pacific Northwest during the 2nd-3rd week of October. I am really looking forward to that trip. So much to see, and only a week to do it.

That came out looking like a combination of two processes. HDR for the logs and Orton for the trees in the background. Makes for a very appealling picture.

Good catch! I processed it using the surreal lightroom technique then applied the Orton effect on top of that. My intent is to develop a style that I like. It's not something that will be universally accepted nor can you call it traditional photography. It's defiantly a work in progress. Caught some mist on the river this morning that I am now processing and hope to put it up in a couple of hours to see what all of you think.
