Photo of the Year
Posted by Tom Lusk, 09-30-2008, 03:28 PM Tom Lusk is offline

Some of you may recall seeing this photo I took in Aug/2007. It's a Clearwing Hummingbird Moth- a real nifty little creature that is a combination of a moth, hummingbird and bumblebee. Actual size of these moths range from 1/2" to approx. 1" (1-2.5cm.). I have never seen one land- they are always on the go, making them fun (but a challenge) to photograph.

Taken with my K100D and Pentax FA*300/4.5, my all-time favourite Pentax lens.

I just received notification that it has won the Canadian Wildlife Federation Photo of the Year for 2007. Excellent prizes including a super-dooper HP printer. I can now print to 13x19" right at home.

I'm not usually a fan of insects photography but that is one awesome shot and to get a good photo of something that doesn't land....wow.

Well deserved recognition.
