Well my mom is in from OK and I am very glad to get to see her.....so I shot her, lol I am wondering what you think of this shot since I am trying to improve my people shooting.
I like the shot of mom, window light, and a relaxed shot tend to be my favorites. If only I could get mom to go along with me... (she hates having her pic taken, she says she has no idea who the old lady sitting in her house is)
I would have also shot some tighter shots, but you know I am a face shooter from way back...
I have some pics of my mom from my last trip back... I will post one if I can find it.
First off I am not good at portraits but since you want feedback here are my thoughts.
In this case where your going for more than a tight crop of the face you can try to setup a background and composition. If that is her favorite chair for instance take it in fully and angle it such that you don't have the extra bright window in the frame. I hope what I said makes sense
That was my 2 cents, but the shot has a great smile captured and is very warm, I like it.
I think what Nirudha is trying to say is "move stuff around to get the best shot", and I agree with him.
I think the shot would have been better taken from farther back and better framed.
oh.... its your Mom, for a second I thought maybe Katie had aged a bit.
Glad you are getting a nice visit with your Mom. (now go put the kettle on and make her a nice cup of tea) - then you can shoot her.

Mom's a honey and almost pulls off the shot! I enjoy much of what I have seen of your photos. thanks. What BD said works for me. I'm noticing the need to reposition. ask people to move around; move the furniture. Set up the shot.
I like it, subject is relaxed, crop is fine, DOF/sharpness in details and overall exposure are excellent ...but have i told you i'm blind?
i'd like to add the shot portrays your mom as "radiant".
LOL, now that I know you are blind I need to see some of your pictures, lol he he he

Love to see a pic of your mom She is from NJ but found her self a cattle rancher at the age of 71 and got married to him at 72! She drives those big old hay trailers and everything. She is over there in Pawnee.

I have some tight crops I havent gotten to yet I understand about moving things around, here's the problem.... I was in someone elses house in a small crowded room and she was tired. So no way to move anything around. Had to make the best of it. What you cant see is right next to her is a dog crate for a huge german shep. and no place to move on the other side either. I will have to post soem of the other pics I took a little later.

I agree if I could have moved things around it would have been ideal. Hows the back feeling??? Looks like I may have torn a rotator cuff

Lol, I have a funny pic of Katie shooting I will have to post, lol but I think even when katie gets that age she will still be beautiful!
We had to drive 2.5 hours to see my mom yesterday. She is staying with one of my sisters at the Jersey shore and we live in PA. We did take her out to dinner and had a lovely visit. Last time she was up she was with us but that was a little over a year ago and I had not started shooting yet. So no pics from then.

I wish there had been room to ask if I could move something around. I did get some other pics of her that I will try to post in a little bit here Thank you for the feedback
