Pelican
Created by LaRee, 12-01-2008, 11:59 PM LaRee is offline

Out for a walk in the rain on Thanksgiving morning with my youngest son at the beach we ran across this pelican. It let me get very close. The first image is 115mm and the second 50mm. k20d, DA*50-135. I had to try out my only water resistant lens in the rain. These are not the best exposures, but it was cool to get this close.

Truely beautiful in deed. The yellow colour makes it unique too

Wonderful shots! I like the second one more, the posture is interesting and the yellow colour comes out nicely.

very cool

Nice pics LaRee!!

It is always cool when you can get close to something that normally you wouldn't be able to..

To bad the sky just wasn't a bit darker, darn good weather anyway...

Nice shots, thanks for sharing...

What a beautiful bird! That's great that you were able to get that close. The second one is my favorite.

I am not a big fan of head and shoulders shots of wildlife, with few exceptions, so when I see beautiful shots of Pelicans, albeit in less than desirable surroundings, I still prefer them. I can see the tufted hair! And I note the second is brighter, but they are still nice shots.

Excellent from the runny nose to the end of the tail feathers. #2 for me as the detail and texture of the feathers are just beautiful.

Very nice photos LaRee and I happen to like the first one but it needed a little tweaking.
Hope that you don't mind,

Heinrich

Nice shots... I especially enjoy the composition of the first one. I feel with a little post-process tweaking, the image could really sing.

I am so sorry for not responding sooner. December was a crazy month. January is shaking out somewhat better though still too busy! To be honest I had forgotten that I posted this.

Jim, axl, kurt, kim, dave, scott, and scott, JMR, HOH, hamid, fragla and kirk thank you for posting and commenting.

Heinrich, your pp does look much better, but the pelican is gray. It is colored like the one I posted. I can see you warmed the image up quite a bit. I think somewhere in between our two versions would be best. It was a very cold rainy dark day, but there probably is a blue cast to my photo. I often find myself processing too cool. Thank you for taking the time to work on this shot.
