1st HDR Attempt
Posted by Aaron1971, 01-08-2009, 11:58 PM Aaron1971 is offline

Hey guys,
I am trying out the Hydra Software Demo. This is my first attempt at HDR. It is a nasty rainy day here so no great landscape shots but subject isn't relevant to this thread. What do you think? Does it look realistic to you? I have to say that the software is very easy to use. I'm gonna go play some more now.......

Yes it was a good holiday. Cheers!

It looks realistic enough that I wouldn't have even noticed it was HDR'd.

Could you not achieve that shot without using HDR? Looks good though. If you want to try it indoors, open your kitchen sink cupboard where it is dark and give it a run there.

I am still experimenting with HDR as well. What I have found is that when I merge the (usually) 5 images in CS3 and compare them to the "middle" shot (the one with no exposure compensation) there is hardly any difference. I have had one shot of a sunset that did look much better than any of the shots that went into it though it did achieve that "oil painting" look that some like and some loathe.

If you are trying for a more realistic look using HDR software, there really should not be any obvious difference between a well exposed (standard) shot and the merged HDR shot if there is no clipping of shadows or highlights.

I agree could not tell that was HDR so if that is the desired effect well done.

I think most of the HDR has been done okay, except for the bright area between the necks of both bottles, where there is very noticeable haloing.
