LBA Struck again

Kind of a long story, so I'll spare the details, but recently I purchased a third lens from Don Kittle (three in one year). My 2nd last one was an FA1.4, which was in immaculate condition. That man takes care of his stuff!

The last one I purchased was this mofo:

Yes, its the Tamron SP300/2.8 Adaptall. The owner previous to him left their love scars, which Don made very apparant to me before the purchase.

This is who I purchased the lens for :

or at least that's what she believed

and finally the obligatory shots:

Squirrel Shots with Tamron 1.4X adapter for a total of 420mm.

Unfortunately this lens is making my poor tripod run away in fear so now its time to invest in something more sturdy.

Congradulation on the lens itself!

The pictures of the squirrels do look very nice in deed.

Sure you have a good combo set up right there!

Congrats on the lens, I have just got one. It is a bit of a monster isn't it. My analogy was "If the Bigma was a Super Model, the Tamron 300 f/2.8 would be Oprah".
If you have the leather lens hood, you can tell your wife that it makes a nice stool when it's on.

Thanks guys. I've very excited about this glass.

I wasn't kidding about this lens beating my tripod into submission... it shakes like a leaf and a 2-second delay isn't enough. What would you guys suggest for a tripod? I have Manfrotto 055CLB legs and a 486RC2 Ballhead, which works just fine with less endowed cameras. From some of the discussion around here I was considering the RRS BH-55 and the Markins M20.

Which do you use Gary?

I put away the tripod and rested the lens on the window sill with a towel. This is the most solid foundation I can supply my lens right now.

Squirrel : 100% crop, ie: 1 to 1.
