My daughter

Another shot from my first session with Alienbees strobes. I used a single 24"x36"softbox left of camera w/ a reflector on the right to serve as a fill means.

Thanks for looking,

think it would be better without that pillow

cute girl.. and nice smile.. good soft light. You could have the softboks a bit highter and more to the left (camera).. so you would have more rembrant style on your light.

Congrats on keeping the PP within the "believable" realm I agree with the pillow - its a little distracting.

What can I say that wasn't said already? Nice pic, good light, nice subject and believable pose.

Beautiful young lady. Excellent job, although I'd drop the pillow as well (assuming I could even learn to do a portrait this well).

You have a beautiful daughter, and a well exposed photo. Pose seems a little awkward on the neck, maybe thats the pillow issue

Ok who put that damn pillow in there?!?!?

(oh it was me )

I hear what you are saying and I thank you for the advice and feedback. I was so busy with the lights and worry about other details I never stopped, stood back, and really looked. I agree simple is best, and it would be better to reduce competition when the competing element doesn't add to what should be the leading subject.

Thanks for looking everybody,

You've known how pretty she is for a good long while now, so it would hardly come as news for me to tell you. I would like to pass along a little softbox tip I ran across somewhere on the internet, if you don't mind. I saw some shots where the guy used black gaffer's tape (comes off without leaving a residue) across the middle of the softbox both vertically and horizontally. It gives the catchlights in the eyes the appearance of having come from natural light through a window.

Always wondered why everyone didn't already do this. It's very logical and is very easy to do.

Mike,

Thanks for the tip about the softbox effect. I really appreciate it (and will definitely try it).
I see that Alienbees does sell Masking kits for their ring flash to create all sorts of interested catch light in the eyes. Your suggestion is simple, easy, and down right brilliant.

Thanks again everyone,

What a great tip about the softbox. Cause it's the only thing in the photo that distracts me.

Beautiful daughter, Spy. Tell her she doesn't need to wear makeup (it's bad for her skin anyhoo )
