Getting the hang of the ring flash - dog portrait

More play with the Saturn Ring Flash. Through trial and a great deal of error I've learned to dial down the flash compensation and drag the shutter to get some natural results....

K20D, DA* 16-50mm 2.8 and AF-540 flash @ 1/20 sec, F/5.6, iso 200, 29mm, -0.7 flash compensation

This was actually quite underexposed. Shooting at a low iso really helps when you need to kick up the exposure when developing the RAW file.

It sure looks like you have the technique down using your ring flash by the looks of this portrait. Nicely done Hamid.

Really nice portrait! I often don't like flashes, but this looks very natural.

Indeed one could not tell a flash was used at all which is the whole point. Nice shot.

This looks really nice. A very soft and gentle light.

Had to laugh, though. Black dog- black couch - good thinking! When it comes to dog hair, if the mountain wont come to Mohammad then the wise Mohammad goes to the mountain.

I'm getting there. I did underexpose by quite a bit. So, not there yet!

Thanks! I'm getting more and more used to flashes, trying to make them look as natural as possible.

My goal with indoor flash is to try and recreate soft window light. Doesn't always work, but it's something to aspire towards.

Robin... we have light, cream colored carpets in most of the house. I can't keep up with the vacuuming!
