Ugliest Bird Ever??
Posted by ChipB, 04-27-2009, 09:50 AM ChipB is offline

These were taken at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs - no PP, only resized for posting.

I have no idea what species it is - maybe one of our birds experts can identify it.

Thanks - C&C always welcome.

Looks like some type of vulture/buzzard.

And for the record, I'm guessing he thinks we're pretty ugly too. LOL

Looks like it is a Southern Ground-hornbill.

I think he's quite handsome. Better looking than this guy...

This is one of my starlings, Roscoe, at 4 days old.

Raoulzg, nope, no board around - it was just kinda running around in one of the outdoor areas.

A lot of lumps with good coating of colour. The last shot is good in a sense. A little dreamy.

Well, I'm not a ornithologist, but my smarty-parts kids reckon it's a Southern Ground-Hornbill. (Now why didn't I know that?)

Southern Ground-hornbill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But, I think I have found two of the world's ugliest birds and they are relos of the bird above.

It's the... Helmeted Hornbill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abyssinian_Ground-Hornbill

Edit: I see Mile High posted first. Mile High, was that your input or do you have smarty-pants kids too?

Dan.
