How to post photos

There are three ways of posting photos in your threads:

1. Link to an off-site image (embed the photo URL)
2. Attach images directly* (use the attachment feature when posting in advanced mode)
3. Post images in the user gallery (upload your photos to the user gallery, and then embed the photo URL)

To embed photo URLs in your posts, wrap the URL with image tags ([img]http://www.site.com/image.jpg[/img]).
You can also use the appropriate photo button in the WYSIWYG editor and enter the URL in the prompt.

*Note that attached images will automatically be placed in your posts- they do not need to be embedded using the above method.

Thanks for reading! If you guys have any additional questions, feel free to ask

I think that if you're to post a single photo, then you're better off in "user photo gallery". The only advantage of this section is that you can post series of photos in a single thread. MHO.

Basically, post them here if you'd like to receive comments and/or critique. If you just want to get them online, use the gallery.

It was dark,

the ship was moving, the lens was long and slow, but what matters is that it is the Manhatten sky line and the city never sleeps so I gave it a shot.

Are you using the page link (.html or .php) instead of the image link (.jpg)?

Total ignorance here about your reference.
There is one image in my gallery. It is a .jpg image. It is on an address as follows:
http://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/photo-441.html
This is the address I pasted between the [img] and the [/img] under the url section of the attachments and told it to upload.
I am missing something, something basic. Please guide me.

I havent done it myself, but hopefully my guess is ok.

I have a question. I have been trying to embed urls of my photos in my posts. The only way they show up is if I use the Attachment feature, which is quickly running out of space.
Using the attachment feature, I can embed photos from my picasaweb account.
If I use the "insert photo button" in the WYSIWYG editor and insert the same URL, the photo shows up, but only in my browser. Everyone else who visits my threads just gets a little red x where the photo should be. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Here's what I think happened:

The photos that you upload as attachments come directly from your picassa account while you were logged in, so they get downloaded to the site and can be now seen by everyone.

If your Picassa album is not public (i.e. you can't view it without logging in), embedded photos will not show.

I don't like having members upload files that are already online using the attachment system, however, so please try to avoid that if possible, as it uses both our space and Picassa's space redundantly. What I recommend is to attach photo's that you've never uploaded before and to link to photos that are already online (assuming you've made them public).

Thanks!

New photo query

I have never tried to post photos on a website before so I am totally lost as to the instructions that have been given. I do not know what embeded means, etc, etc.
The only thing I can say is that my photos are stored in the My Pictures section of My Documents and they are jpeg, also I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro.
Can anyone give a simple explanation please
Thanks
Ann

Hi Ann,

If you want to post your photos, first resize them using Paint Shop Pro.

Then, in the "Post your photos" forum, click the "new thread" button an scroll down toward the middle of the page that appears. Click on the "manage attachments" button; it will bring up an interface which will allow you to select which files you want to upload from your computer. Find and select your photos and press the upload button, and then close out the window, add any descriptive text to the thread, and post the thread! Your photos will appear below the main thread body!

I hope this helps

The method i use is:

1- Post the photos to flickr
2- Create the thread with the thumbnails of the photos (created automaticaly by flickr)
3- Create a link on every image to their bigger size on flickr

I think this is a good method, because on the load of the page, only the small size of the photos are opened, leaving the page more "light".
It's also good because we don't use disk space from the forum.

just my 2cents.

Example thread: Some flowers and plus... in Lisbon

ps.: i can create a small guide if anyone is interessted.
