Finally got one in! (ppg)

Terra's Egg

Larger (I'll find the fullsize if anyone wants): larger
On PPG: Terra's Egg

I was very excited to log into PPG today after not checking for a week or so to discover that this one had made it in. It's one of my favorite images so far, and I also had a 18x12 print of it done by adorama that turned out very well. I'm especially pleased since it was taken with a pretty mediocre old consumer zoom which I generally struggle to get decent IQ from.

Submitted at the same time but rejected:

An Island of Light

Untitled (same rock, different angle)

C&C on rejected pics welcome, thanks for looking!

Congrats!
I like that the rock looks dry... Some how it makes the whole scene dynamic.

Thanks, everyone.

Daacon, I agree on #2 also being a favorite, as far as the lighting, composition and colors, however it's not very sharp and there's a bit of a blown highlight problem. I actually raised the shadows a fair amount on that one, so what I'd like to do is go back to the same spot with a tripod and take a couple bracketed shots with the lens set to a sharper aperture so that I can do some mild HDR and end up with approximately the same image, just sharper and with detail in the highlights. When I do, who knows, maybe I'll even resubmit the new one.

And that rock was pretty dry, actually. I'm glad the creek hasn't gotten high enough to wash it away, since it's been there for weeks. The first time I visited I based some nice compositions on it but the lighting wasn't very interesting, so these were actually taken on my second visit (with much improved lighting).

Ooh.
Nice ones.
#1's quite striking with the razor sharp deatails of the rock and buttery smooth texture of the flowing water surrounding it.
Congrats.

Finally a flowing-water picture that isn't cliché. Well done, well deserved acceptance.

I was actually pretty surprised at how sharp that rock came out since i had it stopped down all the way (if I remember right) and usually that brings a little softness from diffraction... however it seems pretty darn sharp at 100% and at 18x12 with my nose practically touching the print I can't detect any softness.

In my case, age would explain that, although I am only 40 and a little
