I took the family to Norfolk this past weekend for some sailing and sight seeing. I took the K-7 along and here are a few of my favorites from the day.

Nice stuff, I especially like the HDR of the ships bow.

The last picture is the USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), an amphibious dock landing ship.

really like the water shots with that lad in the red shirt (orange??-i'm somewhat color blind, not an advantage in photography)... also the b+w image.... the forward looking bow shot is very nice... but i think it needs a wee bit of leveling....

Wow - number 9 is terrific, Brad. It make me glad we're heading up to the boat in a couple of hours for a week-end gettaway.

The kid in the orange shirt is my son, he was having a great time running in the water and I having as much fun as him capturing the moment.
I agree with you, the horizon isn't quite level in that shot of sail boats bow. I leveled & cropped it once but I didn't like that either, it made the yellow vertical lines in the fronts of the boat lean too much. So what you see here is a "happy medium". I will continue to tweak it and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the info...all i knew is that it was really big ship. That is a fork truck they are putting on the ship with the crane. It was fun to watch

Nice to see the name of the ship. I was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station (located in Oak Harbor, WA) for 18 months in the mid-60's.

The picture of the rope caught my eye ... it has sort of a medium format like 4x6 yashica (sp) All great with a certain look about them. I hope it is all your great post process work & not the camera. I don't need more equipment to lust after.

Thanks for your kind comments. All my post process work was done in Lightroom (tweaks to sharpness and saturation) then 3 of the images (#1, 7 & 9) are pseudo HDR's done in Photomatix Pro, #5 (the ropes) is just a Lightroom preset for that "old camera" look.

That's a not big ship. That's just an amphib. A carrier is a BIG ship. I did a change of command on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) back in 1992 and talk about HUGE! Unbelievable! A whole floating city. If they were putting women on them back then, I would have stayed in. But they weren't at that time, so I got out.

We were stationed in Norfolk for 16 years. Hubby retired in 2005. Love seeing the pictures. We miss the area!!
