Outside the power plant - waterfall
Posted by gawan, 08-03-2009, 02:48 PM gawan is offline

The old power plant I visited has a nice waterfall, real fun to shoot!

Most are shot with DA 16-50mm or 50-135mm, the close ups are with Sigma 100-300mm. Hope you like them - C&C appreciated, as usual!

The perspective on #2 is great, and #3 would have me wondering what I'm looking at if it wasn't for the other pictures - always a good thing.

The colour of the water is weird to say the least... 2 is my favourite, the bird there adds something.

I believe the first one would have been better with a long exposure. And maybe converted to B&W, the water's colour would be less distracting then.

I like #2 as well some interesting angles there Georg. I also agree in #1 the water color is a bit off - but perhaps that was the actual color.

Kevin, Bdery, Dave, thanks for your comments!

Interesting how you experienced the colour of the water, I can understand that. But in fact the colour really is a brownish yellow, the river comes through a landscape of clay soil of that colour, so there is lot's of brown sediments in the water, especially now after heavy rains.

I may try to "correct" the colour a bit, just so that the colours would not be too distracting.

Georg, I like this series and how you experimented with shutter speed. I like the #3 and further, they are fun. The pattern in the water of #3 is great....

Goodness... number 2 is so good.

I am also really liking #3 as a stand alone abstract!

You have outdone yourself with this Powerplant series... hats off

Nice. I like how you use the different compositions of a typical scene (a waterfall). Also the variation of the shutter speeds is nice. Great shots.

Rense, thank you! An amateur as I am, always experimenting and trying to learn!

Good series Georg.
I'm another fan of #2. A little more PP work and it can really 'pop'!
