Coopers Hawk

It's a Coopers Hawk. Quite common in the upper mid-west of the USA. A pair decided to take up residence in my backyard about a week ago. Very entertaining to watch, but hard on the local small bird and rodent population. Last year about this time, four spent nearly a month in the neighborhood "balancing nature."

Cheers...

Thanks for the info Michael. If you've got a couple in your backyard there will be plenty more opportunities to shoot them (with the camera), but I can see that it is a hard time for the local bird population.

Thanks all for your kind comments.

Some background: I had just a few minutes from the time I saw the bird in my backyard until is was gone. Once I figured out what was going on, I quickly assembed the kit and quietly slipped out of the house and into position. The image was taken through vegetated understory.

Technically the shot is so-so...

The DA 300 was paired to a K-7 shooting Program Mode... the lighting was very poor... 1/45s (hand-held) at F/5.6 ( DOF of about 1.2 feet), iso400... To get anything was just pure luck...

IMHO & FWIW: Equipment counts!

Cheers...
