Mississippi River this morning
Posted by navcom, 08-10-2009, 05:25 PM navcom is offline

Got up early this morning and took this one from the local sailboat marina. I used a 2-stop reverse ND grad with a little post-processing to sharpen it a bit. I think it was slightly out of focus. I think I set the hyperfocal distance a tad bit off. Thought I'd share and would love any comments!

I like very much the way you put together the pure nature of sunrising and the human, straight lines of the seafront.

Very impressive shot, Jeff. The light, color and placid river all come together very nicely.

Excellent image Jeff. And if the focus is off a bit you certainly cant tell it. Well done!

It is very beautiful, but it's also very small. It would be impossible for anyone to tell if the focusing was off at that resolution.

Thanks everyone for the valued comments! I'm going to get a couple different sizes printed up and see if the focus is an issue. It may just be my pixel peeping. I compared it to another shot I took a year ago along the river and it was pretty close to the same for focus. Might just be me.

I like it a lot. It's shots like this that make me think of getting bunch of filters instead of PPing in CS3

well done

Filters are the way my friend! I just think you get much better quality and a more natural image with filters versus post-processing. Plus, there is just something about creating the image "on site" that makes the journey just as pleasing as the destination. Kind of like painting it versus documenting it.
