Okay, it has technical flaws, but I like it anyways. Tried this after reading an article on this topic in the articles section. Great Forum !

Shot with the Pentax-A 50/1.7 at f/5.0, ISO800 on a tripod, with cable relaese.

Wow! Nice work with the 50mm, I can't even get up that close with a 70mm without scaring the birds away. It must took you a very long time to wait for that bird to come to snap that using the cable release.

Catch-in focus doesn't need the cable release, or does it?

He probably means by catch-in focus that he put camera with release there, and set release in pushed in mode. Then, in AF-S and manual focus lens, he pre-focused on where he thought the bird would be. Then he set up some bait and waited in the bushes

That's a great catch! I've used catch-in-focus to help me to get a well focused shot with my M-50 f1.4, but I haven't used it like this. I'll have to try it out, I've got a little bird house out back that are inhabited by some house sparrows. They are extremely spooky and will fly away as soon as I disturb a window blind. They will peek around if they see movement and if they can see me inside they will fly away. I'll have to put a little more thought into it because I want to get some pictures of the little guys.

Thank you! Yes, you should really try it, this is exactely the situation in which it should work. However, 'my' sparrows were a bit afraid at firs when they saw the camera, and even more so when they heard the shutter . But after a few hours (!) they were more or less used to it....
