Cape Cod vacation, scenic pics
Posted by khardur, 08-22-2009, 07:41 PM khardur is offline

I was on vacation this week from Monday to Thursday in Cape Cod.

I was itching all week to get out alone with the camera, I just can't seem to get anything besides snapshots with the family in tow, they don't leave me alone and there was a lot of pressure to get going to the next point of interest, especially since my in-laws were with as well.

So Wednesday morning I left around 5:30 on the bike and took a trip on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. I rode 13 miles past a few salt marshes, finally ending up at Coast Guard Beach. Here are the results:

1. From the salt marsh adjacent to Coast Guard Beach.

2. Coast Guard Beach with the 10-17 fisheye

3. This is a creek that empties into Nauset Bay.

4. A private drive off the bike trail.

5. Sand cliffs at Coast Guard Beach

6. had to get one of these shots. I had my camera bag and bike helmet about 50 feet behind me as a precaution, it was a good thing too because a bigger wave came up while I was composing and got my legs and went up the beach a good 20 feet farther than all the previous ones that hit shore for the few minutes I was there.

7. One last shot of the beach and the waves coming in.

I wish I could say I've got more than this to show for it, but this was the only 3 hour stretch I actually got to myself. I want to return again sometime maybe in the fall when there are less people and do this again, but maybe take a headlamp for the bike and make a whole day of it, sunrise to sunset and everything in between.

I really like the series. Rich and nicely processed. Even the featureless shot of bare sand and water held my attention. Well done.

nice series. I particularly like #3, 4, and 5. I know what you mean about trying to take pictures
when out with the family, I'm going on vacation this coming week and your method of going out
in the early AM might work!

Glad you could away for a few shots. Very nice series Dan looks like a lovley place. I hear ya on the waves - good job parking the gear out of the way.

Absolutely beautiful scenery and perfectly captured Dan.
You've chosen excellent perspectives and timed the shots well.
Thanks for sharing.

Tim - yeah that worked out nicely, and I could probably have gotten away with it twice if I knew how long it was going to take. I was out from 5:30 - 8:30 which was plenty of time to shoot while light was good/not too harsh. I got back and my wife and son were just finishing up breakfast. No significant family time missed, because this was after all a family vacation not a "me and the camera" vacation.

I knew from past experience as a kid that waves are sneaky. One or two sand buckets dragged out to sea because you were too trusting leaves an impression on you.
