I like the first one, but I think the focus is on the jacket and the face is not crisp.

You mean "first good use of...". The first tries are always of something in the kitchen or the living room like a lamp or the dinner table. Except for those of us with very handsome husky mix breed dogs of course and studios and models just waiting around.

Please, someone laugh with me rather than at me and pointing.

Nice tries with these.
Looks like fun.
A light does need to be directed and intensified at the subject to bring him out a little more for this type of capture, but other than that, you look like you're getting the hang of it.

yes... just K10D was having fun time focusing in basement lighting, so I just use center focus point.
