hey wait a second !! it looks like my old beetle is there !! lol....
it still amazes me how they could just end up in the middle of nowhere...
nice series...
I'm not sure why they are there either. They are located on a farm between Orangeville and Shelburne in Ontario - pretty close to the road actually.
I drove past them at least 8-9 years ago (when I was first getting into taking pics) and always wanted to go back to shoot them. With having some vacation time off I decided to drive up and see if they were still there...and they were. I had driven by them about a year or two ago as well.
I don't know why someone left them there. Bits of the engines are still intact, but most of it is gone, as well as, some of the body panels. The interiors were pretty ragged too (springs through the seats) and were home to many a spider. I wouldn't imagine they are restorable, but they were great subjects to shoot in their current condition.
I might stop by again in the winter to see if they are still there again. I'd love to get some shots of them with some snow coverage on them. That time of year would really cut down on the spiders, ants, and bees that were swarming me for about 50 mins also (not so much fun).

P.S.
Just for interest:
1,4,5 - Shot with DA 10-17 FE (10mm, 17mm, 17mm respectfully)
2 - Shot with FA77
3 - Shot with Tamron 28-75 @ 55mm.
Unfortunately no shots from inside - too many bugs (pun not intended) are now calling these cars home. There was a lot of junk in them also (see photo #4's jerry can, and tire rim sitting on the driver's seat), which wouldn't have made any interior shots pleasing (to me at least).
