On our return from the USA we flew into Sydney....and a dust storm of massive proportions. Storms of this nature are caused by a combination of climatic factors whipping up outback red dust into the atmosphere and then strong winds carrying it across land and out to sea.
Spectacular at the best of times, but even more so from this angle.
Our landing was aborted on the first attempt but we got down safely eventually, we were apperently one of the last flights to land in Sydney and many were diverted to other airports as Sydney shut down.
These shots are snapped with the Iphone as we were in landing approach and I couldn't get to the camera...but they give you an idea of what it was like.
The inside of the cabin was an eery red/orange glow.
We then "enjoyed" a ten hour wait on the ground for transferring flights that were cancelled or rescheduled.
Both yours and the other pics I've seen of the dust storm are just incredible. These are the first shots I've seen from above. Nice captures and interesting point of view. Thanks for posting.
