Mushrooms

I gues it was because I just told Rense how much I hated orange but I stumbled upon these ("Chicken of the Woods"?) mushrooms this morning and just had to shoot 'em. I'm not completely satisfied with the shooting or processing (for one thing, the lighter yellows kept blowing out--which is why they're really darker than I'd like 'em to be.) but I thought they were worth sharing.

The photo of the clump was taken with the Sigma 10-20mm (older version) the close-ups with the Voightlander 180mm.

If you had an extra bottle of water, I reckon you could have washed off the bits of earth (for the close up shots).

I like the top right photo.

Good shots. I especially like the 2nd and 4th.

You're right, xhanatos: I'm not sure about water but it would have been a good idea to have brushed them off with a soft brush (if I had had one with me--which I didn't.)

Thanks Dave!

So I went back today with a clean paint-brush and my SMC A 35-105mm (love that lens) and shot a few more. Light conditions were even worse than yesterday so I ended up shooting at f7.1 & ISO 1000. I lost a bit of detail to NR but I'm still fairly pleased with the results.

You shouldn't begrudge the weather, these are fine. You will note that if you had direct sunlight the shadows would be very harsh. So, the best light for plants is bright overcast, where the subject is beatifully lit and the shadows are soft. But overcast is next best.
