Spent the last couple of days shooting the reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek in Middletown, VA. I ran into Stoge (from Front Royal) today when I noticed his Pentaxes. We had a great time chatting and shooting in spite of the rather brisk weather. The following shots are mostly cavalry stuff. I will post more infantry, artillery and portraits over the next few days.

The only thing that bothers me is that many of the guys (particularly in the cavalry) broke character a lot (smiles and laughing) but I guess it probably was a lot of fun so what should I expect... LOL
Very nice series. Love the first shot of the cannon firing, I wish I could have that kind of timing. Sometimes I think my summer was almost wasted because of my days off schedule (wed/thurs), I would have loved to get out to some of the re-enactments that happen around here on a yearly basis. Nice job!

I like the guy in the first pic pumping his arm, and some people look like they are hiding a smiley - looks like a lot of fun (have not been to one).
Really like #12's composition, #1 has amazing timing, and #5 gives a good feeling
Thanks! I won't tell how many cannon firings I shot to get that one... LOL And I am real pleased with #5 as well. Sort of a "center of the maelstrom" thing going. I'm going to be doing some B&W and sepia conversions of these.

Thanks Mel! Yeah you shoulda come out!!! It was a bit steep ($15) to get in but if you went both days it was only $20... And Sunday was a lot dryer.

Thanks Mike! As I said above, not gonna say how many shots it took to get that one perfect cannon fire shot! LOL Yeah, next summer you need to check the schedule and work some days off to shoot these. Lots of fun.
I really like number 5. It looks like the real deal; plus it has a great sense of movement and action.

Thanks Ash! These things are a challenge to shoot and a lot of fun to boot. A lot of car alrms got a kick out of the cannon fire too. Every time they lit one of a half dozen car alrms would start up. LOL

Thanks Elva! It's amazing how much care most of these guys put into their uniforms and accessories and all at their own expense. The infantry can get off pretty cheap but the cavalry guys spend a fortune.

Great stuff Mike. I like 1,5 and 12 as well. In fact the whole series is very good. But #9 really caught my eye. The black horse further right looks frightened and it really gives the shot a 'real' feel.
I agree that the last one is a great shot and well chosen shooting angle.
