Every fall the city drains the local pond as part of their flood prevention program. The resultant shallows attract a lot of migrating wildfowl including the odd heron. Managed to catch a few today with the M 400/5.6.

Most are from about 150 feet away which seems to be the comfort zone for this particualr bird.

I was fiddling with shutter speed and f stop throughout this shoot. The sun was popping in and out from behind the clouds all day. The last one is my favourite as well.
