K7 + 10-17mm Fisheye + Lightning

First ever attempts at capturing lighting.

I corrected the colour problem by altering the profile to sRGB in photoshop then re-uploading.

Those funny bits on the right hand side are from rain drops on the lense.

sRGB is the profile you should be using in the camera as that is the default for web and screen displays. I'm not sure if something is up with Flickr this week but I also had a color problem posting in a thread and had to move my pic to my ISP server to get it right.

These look very good.
The colours are so vibrant.
You timed them well too. Good effort.

Great shots, what iso/aperture do you use for getting the lightning to look like that?

Stunning shots! I notice possible drizzle spots on the third. Were you outside on the roof?

Yer I was up on my terrace perfect spot to capture the storm.

I kept the ISO around 140-280. Apperture around f10-f16, focal lenth @ 10mm and the exposures all at 30sec.

It was purely trial and error, i'd never actually shot lightning before until lastnight. The hardest bit was getting the exposure right where the lightning looked decent and the city lights didn't overexpose.

You have done a really great job, well done!
2 and 3 are the best IMO.

The foreground of the city works very well for me too, great stuff

IMHO These photos just show what the K7 can do with the right user and software.

Whoever says you need a Canon or Nikon to achieve stunning low-noise results? :P

I have to admit I was disappointed with the K7 when I first got it, I was close to returning it and getting a Nikon D90, but eventually once I learned how to use it better, shoot raw I have been more than impressed with what it's capable of.

I should say these photos have only had minor PP and minimal to no NR.

The major adjustments I had was fill light, recovery, blacks, clarity, saturation and vibrance. The fill and recovery was used to mostly fix the overexposure in the city lights.

I applied no distortion or lense correction, contrary to others complaints I find the 10-17mm at 10mm an excellent performer especially when stopped down.

And one more photo that I salvaged, wasn't the best but not the worst.

Good work Chris,

You out again tonight? You'd be getting that one heading towards Melbourne?
