Test shots of Helios 44K-4 from Russia

Just got my package today from an eBay seller; lens was bagged, bubbled, and boxed but missing a rear-end cap. Glass is in flawless condition, blades are clean, and the focus/aperture rings work.

Tricky lens to work with for me due to the extra step of having to meter before taking my shot (something I'm not quite used to yet). Mostly close-ups because of the rainy weather, hopefully some more shots over the few days will follow.

That's one sharp copy.
What is it with these Helios's that makes them famous/infamous?
Shots I've seen from it have not fallen short of excellent...

Another quick series; it's unpredictable when that dizzy bokeh kicks in. Almost as if you need a certain combination of background objects, distance from main subject, and a little bit of black magic!

Happy Halloween, everyone!
