Southern France in B&W
Posted by Rense, 11-07-2009, 08:56 AM Rense is online now

I thought I'd try something different and convert some of my holiday photos in B&W. What do you think, is a path to be further explored, or should I stick to colour?

Rense, these are really good.

I have been experimenting with B&W landscape type shots recently and IMO they are great when done nicely. You're off to a good start!

I would suggest you have a look at split toning as well, if you haven't already.

For me, 1-3 are all brilliant. The B&W conversion is beautiful.
#3 is just stunning. The cloud formations are like icing to the cake.

I say continue with your B&W experiment, these are very good. As stated above, #3 really nice, and a very interesting cloud formation. Thanks!

Thanks a lot! Sometimes I use split toning, but I did not try it for these, and I probably will, if I can find time...

Thanks Paul. I tried to get lighter tones in the foliage, but apparently it's not enough. I will try it again!

Thanks Ash! The scenery did it in nr3, although the light was harsh and the atmosphere full of dust. I had to remove quite a lot of bluish in the background, and this is why I dislike the colour version...

Thanks dcmsox! Nr. 4 is taken vertically in the entrance of the Grottes de Choranche.
