The Milk Market in Limerick was first opened in 1852 and closed in its original form on Saturday 31 October 2009. It will be refurbished for six months with a roof and other amenities. I wonder if it will ever be the same?
In the meantime the vendors will be moving to Ellen Street. These are photos from the last day of operations.
I'm experimenting with some new post-processing techniques in these shots, in order to bring out a certain antique sense of detail. I used the DA12-24 and DA55-300 plus the FA77 for the first shot. As always, let me know what you think. You can click through to Flickr where I have some other shots.
In 'discussing the weather', there seems to be a black outline around the face of the middle gentleman, is that from your post-processing?
I guess it is. Edges have been emphasised, which pulls out detail and creates a sort of fake 3D look. Odd thing is, I've seen the same effect in some antique photos.
# 2 is cool tools! I have never seen anything like that at a market place par say; I've seen it at swap meets. Nice capture! I like the interaction with the people.
i like the feel of these shots... primarily the perspectives you've employed... the last birds eye shot is super..
This was a deliberate choice. Since a roof is going up over the market this was the last day to get photos from an aerial perspective... from the adjacent car park!
