Cheltenham Badlands (5 pics)
Posted by Alvin, 06-18-2007, 08:53 AM Alvin is offline

Work is crazy but I finally got a chance to get out and shoot. I went with a buddy Friday afternoon to this place - I can't believe that this is just about an hour north of Toronto!

Converted from Raw using Picasa. I used the kit lens, K-28/3.5 and the 10-17 FE, not sure about exactly for which ones but mostly shot at ISO 400.

Alvin, that is a very nice series thanks for posting it.

That is the second time that I see photos from the Cheltenham Badlands, someone else from Toronto posted some on another forum a while back.

We'll be in Burlington this fall so I will take a trip up there and have a look.

Take care, Heinrich

Great photos there Alvin. I really liked the B&W conversion. It worked well on the tree.

Cheers

I agree with you there Donald! It probably was photographed another 3 million times last year as well, but I still wanted my own

Heinrich, it is a smaller place, but as a few others have put it, you feel like you are in a different world when you are walking about the area. When you visit, make sure to have a pair of shoes that you don't mind messing up with good tread on it. The ground in many spots is loose. The clay is also a rich orange-red colour that is attracted to light coloured clothing - shows up "great" on white shoes as one couple discovered during my visit there

If you don't mind hiking around, there are many photgraphic opportunities in the area which I'm still discovering. I hope you enjoy the area as much as I have.

I like the first 2 shots, Alvin.

Welcome back. Lots of people are not around that much anymore like Clarence or Andrew Fair

The foreground in the B&W has a very dreamy quality to it... very nicely done.

And about it being photographed many times... like they say "it may be a cliché, but it's MY cliché"

Never thought of Ontario looking like that.

Nice scenery indeed the B&W version could be something out of a 1950's horror film. It is amazing there are pockets of scenery only a short distance from anywhere I suspect

Thanks for the welcome, James!

Clarence and Andrew not around much? they probably had something come up, but I'm sure they'll be around again soon.

I agree. Sorta like the 7 wonders. Photographed a thousand-million times, but only when you see it yourself...

My co-op student photoshopped my B&W I have here - he added that character from Friday the 13th coming out from that opening in the background. It was subtle enough that one of my co-workers did not initially notice. What a laugh! I tried to resize it to show it here, but no success yet.
