A few shots from new Sigma 17-70mm
Posted by slick100d, 06-21-2007, 10:16 PM slick100d is offline

I got this lens last week and have been using it quite a bit to check it out. So far I really like the versatility and IQ.

First a hosta flower (70mm, f8):

A bug close-up (anybody know what this is??)(70mm, f8):

A sunset (40mm, f8):

And lastly, a teenager in her natural habitat! (17mm, f2.8):

Comments welcome.

Great shots and yes the IQ of that lens looks to be just wonderful! I think your last shot is priceless! Actually she'd pay you quite a penny to not post that picture were her friends can see how messy she keeps her room. Great job and this lens has found a good home.

Btw, the bug you found... I don't know what it is, but it's cool!

Great shots and a by now embarassed teenager :-) The bug is an Ailanthus Webworm Moth.

Take care, Heinrich

Yes, that lens really is very good all-around lens. It hasn't left my camera since I bought it. Well, if only for few days duoring all that time.

I quite like the second shot, good capture. And of course, last one is priceless with that caption! I feel much better now, it makes me look like a cleaning maniac, while I myself tend to think opposite all the time

Great shots, crisp and clear. I like the colours of that sunset. But you think the room in the last shot is messy? We should run a themed photo competition! But I think there may be some payback from certain people if we did.

I must admit the last picture reminded me of my teenage years, I wonder why I always kept my room so messy, I wouldnt stand that now, couldng find anything. So I find your comment about it being the natural habitat of a teenager to be very true.

I must say the macro capabilities of this lens are impressive and the bug shot is my fave. but the sky shot is also very cool!

Thanks for the nice comments!

I actually have quite a few pictures of my girls that I'll be saving for boyfriends/graduation/paybacks!

I didn't have anything wider than 24mm before getting this lens. I was surprised I could get most of her room in one shot. My Tamron 24-135 will be heading for the marketplace forum.

I thought the bug was pretty cool looking too but failed to find it on the net. I was looking at beetles, not moths. Thanks for identifying it Heinrich. I'm glad we have an entomologist in the group! Also, I loved your pictures of the Canadian Rockies. I haven't been up there in too long.

Our family vacation starts tomorrow, so I'll be giving it a good workout. We're heading to Colorado so I hope to get some shots for the monthly challenge.

Great shots Steve - I have a couple of those 'teenagers' as well. We have found that by filling the room with a queen size bed there is less mess :-)

If it hard to find them in their natural habitat as in the summer the home time becomes refueling , and sleeping ...

Neat (and "not so neat") shots. Seems like a great lens allowing a nice variety of shots.
