i googled 'photographer society' and that is what i thought was relavent from the first three pages...while i was chatting with a chick and not missing a beat.

i did use a search. i found alot of societys but what i was looking for was some people that has been in them and give me their view on them. i was not looking for someone to be a complete jerk. im not an idiot i know how to search the web. so please if you dont have anything helpful please dont respond. thank you andrew and yeah brit pro societys would be what im looking for. sorry feel free to move this thanks

Jeez man I dont think I was a complete jerk. Just kindof a jerk. Now that you've clarified your question, you might get a better answer.

Are you a nature photographer, stock photographer, fashion photographer, wedding photographer, sports photographer? Many societies are fairly specific.

All photography societies/organizations/clubs have something to offer. The key is joining the right one. PPA, WPJA, and other similar organizations are decidedly business. I belong to the PPA and I find their resource library invaluable. Add to that their publication, access to discounts, conferences, etc. The kind of advice I get from them would cost me much more than the annual membership, so to me it's well worth the expense.

If you're looking for an organization that fosters more the art than the business, you could also look into local/state photography clubs, Photographic Society of America, and other organizations.
