Hello,
Sayings usually loose their meaning when translated, but we have an old saying in spanish that goes something like "In the land of the blind, the one eyed is king"
I am not a pro photographer. Just an enthusiast. In this forum community, I'm at the bottom of the food chain. However, in my daily community (family, friends, work) I'm seen as the semi-pro photographer. My children's school events, family reunions, boy scout meetings etc.
Very frequently I find myself answering questions about photography. Whenever somebody gets a new camera I get questions on how to use it, settings, etc.
Sooo, I was thinking of doing some sort of seminars on photography basics. Explain a breif history, the fundamentals of focus, aperture, shutter speed, composition etc, practice exercises, digital vs film, file types and the very basics of post-processing like cropping and resizing. I have several film SLR bodies that can be used as well as my DSLR plus several P&S. Of course participants will also bring their own equipment.
I have to sit down and outline what to include so I can get your inputs as well as an idea of time and any costs involved (printed material, snacks etc). I'm thinking of maybe 4 - 6 hours total.
I'm an electronics/communications electrical engineer and I do electronics technical trainings so I'm confident talking to audiences and with my teaching/presentation skills.
How can I determine what to charge for this? By the hour? by contents? By group size? My intention is not to make a living out of this but just an experiment. I suppose I will star with friends and relatives and take it from there.
Any comments?
Thanks, |
