cannot log out properly or post photos.

I am having trouble posting photos in the post photo section of the forum, every time I try to post a new thread it says I am not logged in or not permitted to do so, why? I have posted photos in this section before and can reply to other posts. Also after logging out of the site, and go back into the site again it says that I am logged in. Very strange! can anyone help please?

Hi Julie,

Make sure you have cookies enabled, and that cookies from PentaxForums.com are permitted- they're needed to save your forum login session.

Have you tried clearing your cache and erasing your cookies?
I do hope you are at least using Firefox or Opera.
A simple (and free) way to erase your cookies is to download Crap Cleaner - Download CCleaner 2.06.567 - filehippo.com And tell it to erase your cookies and usage tracks.

You might have some faulty pastry on your computer.

Adam, it would be better if she only erased the cookies for PentaxForums.com. She might have trouble logging into other sites.

I'll make sure Adam reads this.

She can always re-type her passwords, or ask Firefox to remember them for her.
Personally, I always clear all my cookies weekly.
Google's tracking cookies don't even make it onto my hard disk.

I have had a slightly different problem of late but maybe related...

Sometimes when I have been looking around the forum (not signed in) and find a thread I want to reply to, I attempt to log in and it goes thru the motions like it is logging me in, says thank you for logging in igilligan, but I am still not logged in. No matter how many times I try it will not give me the Welcome igilligan. [Log Out] at the top of the page and I can not reply to the thread. I have to x out of PF.com and then come back and log in.

If I log in when I first come on to PF.com then I never have a problem logging in, only if I have been prowling around the forum first...

Make sure the "www." is in the URL when logging in, because cookies can tell the difference between the address Welcome to PentaxForums.com- The internet's first full-scale Pentax community and forum! and just pentaxforums.com when tracking sessions. This means that, technically, you could be logged in on one domain and not on the other.

The security options allowing you to do that can be found in Tools>Internet Options (if you're using Internet Explorer).

Once again thanks all.

I do have a cookie cleaner, not quite sure what it is and I am not using Firefox or Opera, I have never had any problem before with any site. For some reason I just have to keep refreshing the page after I log out or open a thread to update to the latest post. As for the starting a new thread I just don't know what happened there. The problem seems to be solved for now.

Thanks.

the problem i'm having is that after about 3 minutes of inactivity, the site boots me out and i have to retype my username/password again (even with the "remember my password" box checked). is there a way to prevent this?
i know that this is probably a safety mechanism, but for those that are surfing at home, this shouldn't be an issue.

The default duration of a forum session is 30 minutes, so something must also be wrong with your cookie settings. I can't help you much beyond that as I'm not a browser expert, but hopefully someone else will be able to help you find the cause of the issue!

Julie, if you are running IE 7, that could be your problem. If you are running Vista, it won't help much. The solution I had to use to make my browser work properly was to start using FireFox.

Unfortunately, some sites (not this one) do not display properly except under IE. I was able to revert my IE to version 6, and all the pain was much lessened. Find yourself a sharp 14 year old geek in the neighbourhood. For the price of a box of DVD-R/W he will probably be able to solve the troubles for you.

Thanks for the advice I may have a go at using Fire Fox to start with and then the later Lol.

Thanks again.
