Is there a 'auto notify / subscribe' when replying option?
Never mind. Issue was simply that "Quick Reply" was not setting the "Subscribe"/"UnSubscribe" flag in the pull down menu until the page was refreshed. (Firefox under Vista).

I'm wondering if there is an option (that I'm overlooking - doh) to automatically subscribe to email notifications for any thread you reply to using quick reply.
Threads one starts have the option to subscribe when creating the initial post.
But when replying I've been replying/posting using quick reply and then clicking 'subscribe thread' from the pull-down at the top.
Alas lately, as senility sets in, I've missed some really good posts by forgetting to subscribe to threads I've posted in... and I'm just wondering if there isn't a option to avoid this pitfall.
Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread
It's on the top right of the bar above the message.

Yes. As I said, that's what I've been using. :-)

My question is not "how to subscribe to each thread I post in", but whether there already is (, or I suppose can be,) an *option* to auto-subscribe for notifications of all threads I might post in - particularly as when using the 'quick reply' button no option is presented.

It's just that I need a different "type" of help... well... to be fair... different "types". :-)
Or maybe I just need to be more systematic, and/or less lazy. (Although I did try searching before posting. :-)
And just to complicate things I noticed that on a thread I just replied to, the pull-down showed that I was not subscribed (after my post). But after refreshing (F5 in Firefox) the status now indicated that I was. So... ? Perhaps the 'state' of the subscription indicator isn't updated without a manual refresh. I'll experiment when I have a bit when I can. But I'd rather take some photos. :-)
There's acually something you can do instead of manually subscribing to indivudual threads! To subscribe to everything you reply to, visit your User CP options page and look for the dropdown found below this text:
"When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread."
My perception was that this was not working (or actually was working only with the non-quick reply buttons) because after replying to any thread, the pull-down still shows the option to 'subscribe' (and not "unsubscribe" as one would expect).
A manual refresh (F5, navigating away and back, etc) correct this though, and the pull-down will then show the 'unsubscribe' option instead.
Or, using the 'quote' button, the thread shows as being subscribed as soon you reply. Very odd that 'quote' and 'quick reply' set the flag (to present the menu choices) differently.
Embarrassingly, I already had the "auto subscribe" option set to "Instant Email Notification" - probably from Jan 2007 when I joined. :-)
So I'm now guessing my 'missing notifications' were email (and not board) related.
