Since the advanced search and tags don't seem to let me narrow my searches to a specific camera, k10D in my case, I end up sifting through a ton of stuff before I find stuff, if at all. Moreover, there is no support for exact text searches such as "SCR" - you will find everything from scratch to scrotum but no clue if the k10D's flash power output is throttled by a fast acting SCR based on the cumulative amount of light entering the lens over a period of time. I get perfect exposures for an indoor person shot with flash at 37 or 40 mm and very dark shots at 18 mm with the EXACT same settings (yes shutter, aperture and ISO with no EV using on both P and M modes)
I digress and have begun posting in the wrong place as I define my question/suggestion for improving the search options/engine but you get the idea.
Although I originally wanted to add sub-forums for specific camera models when I upgraded the forum to vBulletin 3.7, I've now postponed the plans, but the new forums will inevitably be added sometime in the future, alongside a software upgrade, most likely.
I think the idea of making separate model forums was scrotum-scratched due to the belief it would get muddled up pretty quickly anyway, once people start comparing models in one thread...Or maybe that was on another forum. I still think it is true, though.
At this point, I am not sure there is a need for a K10D forum, i mean really if you consider it, we could also have a forum for *istD , DS, DS2, DL, K100, K110, K20.....
If you really went for the whole thing, there would be a Km, KX, K2, K2DMD, K1000, LX..... forum also.
I think we have it right at the moment. Film SLR, DSLR, P&S, Lenses, & Accessories, as the hardware forums.
Then we have general photography, everything else, rumors, news, and off topic.
The only thing I would think is relevant, would be a camera review forum, similar to lenses.
This would then allow people to read about the cameras, from a review, good and bad things point of view, without getting bogged down in discussions that go all over the map/

Ooh - there's an idea -

There's a not so fine line in forum management between compartmentalizing general topics for relevancy and killing the forums all together. Aside from the cross-talk Lowell mentioned between K10 vs K20 etc. going on, if you get too spread out discussion begins to die out on the site overall because it becomes too cumbersome for members to browse through looking for topics of interest and it becomes a nightmare when you're posting a new thread - "do I post here, or over there?". There is already a little of the latter going on now and I'm afraid if you add more granularity things are going to get ugly - especially for your moderators, hehe.
My free advice is keep it as simple as possible and only branch out when a given area becomes incoherent. DSLR, SLR, P&S, Lenses, Gear == perfect

Just a suggestion. If a thread is going to be camera specific we could start the thread title with the camera designation and follow with the actual title. This could assist in specific searches without muddying the waters.

maybe use thread title prefixes (optional) like the marketplace does for "for sale" "want to buy"? dunno, maybe that would be okay
