Remembering Me

This might just be me, but it seems like in the last 3-4 days that everytime I visit the forum, I have to check in -- again. I always click the "remember me" box, I still have to log-in each visit. I visited the forum about 6;00am today, and I just had to log-in again at 12:00 noon. BTW, this is happening to me at home also, so I'm curious if others are having the same problem. Thanks.

Are your computers set to clear the cookies?

Tell your browser not to delete the cookies.

Also, if you log in from computer A, then log in from computer B, you'll have to type your username/password again on computer A.

Basically computer A's cookie expires once you log into pentaxforums.com form computer B.

I am having similar issues and it is not as simple as computer A vs. computer B.

I have been logged in. Logged out to go to the store. Came back 1/2 hour later and had my credentials dropped. This problem started happening fairly recently.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If I log in at work I usually don't have to log in again at home (if I had previously been logged in). What happens is that both seem to clear at the same time so I would think it is either a site problem or some sort of set length in the cookie.

I'm experiencing this problem not just with this forum, but with EVERY forum, not matter which computer I use. In total, in any given day, I use about 3 different browsers (IE, FireFox, Chrome) in 3 different installations (home, work, laptop) and they all exhibit the same problem. I can't imagine this is just coincidence.

I think it might be a problem with the vBulletin boards I visit.

My computer is not set to clear cookies, either here at home or at work. This is the only forum that I am having this problem with. If I got to Photo Net, I have no problem. There are basically 4 forums that I visit on a regular basis: Pentax Forums, Photo Net, my officiating forum, and an automotive forum, and the other 3 remembers my log-in and password. This just started about a week ago.

None of my motorcycle forums are remembering me either. It remembers me for about a day and then it just suddenly forgets. This is new so I'm not sure what it is doing it.

You need to make sure the "www." is included in the URL when logging in.

Also, I've experienced issues when using Firefox 3 when browsing forums in general, so stay away from that browser if it's giving you trouble with the POST function.

@Adam:

Was your last reply directed to "log-on"? If so, I'm not following what you are saying. I think there was a thread about not being able to post. Did you post to the wrong thread?

Yeah, my reply was directed toward the original post in this thread. As long as you log in on a page containing "www." in the URL, there shouldn't be any cookie conflicts over at our end. If you still experience trouble staying logged in, there must be something wrong with your browser or cookie permissions.

My mentioning the "POST" function is probably what go you consued; it is a technical term that refers to a browser's ability to submit data through a form (i.e. login boxes, thread editors, etc.), and may affect cookie creation if the browser transmits it incorrectly. I've only seen this happen with early versions of Firefox 3 on Mac, so stay away from that browser if you're on a Mac.

@Adam

I have had the same general problem. I'm using bookmarks to take me to this page:

PentaxForums.com - Pentax Photography Forum

so we have the www. part covered. I log in at work using Firefox on XP and at home using Safari on 10.5.4. What happens is occasionally I will log in from one system and NOT have the auto log in happen and I will also have to manually log in on the other system the next time I access the site. It isn't always the same system that requires the new log in first and there doesn't seem to be a particular time of day involved, but it does seem to happen about every 3~5 days.

I'm also using a bookmark to get to the same page. I use Firefox/XP at home, and IE/XP at work. I'm logged on at work right now, and when I hit the bookmark, it opened up right away and I was logged in -- no problem. Yesterday, same time, same procedure, I wasn't logged in upon opening. Oh well, it isn't any trouble to enter the info, but I was curious about it. Thanks everyone for your replies.

I use I.E. and very seldom get logged out. A couple of sites do if you don't visit often enough

For anyone still having this problem, here's something to try.

I'm using the Firefox browser, and also use CCleaner to determine which cookies to keep and which to delete each day. The cookies for this forum are in my list that I keep.

But to solve the problem described above, I needed to delete the Pentaxforum cookies, and then let the system create and keep a new cookie for Pentaxforums.
