[SOLD] FA*300/4.5 plus tripod collar (EU)

Hello all,

I'm selling my FA*300/4.5. I'm sure there's no need to praise this lens as it's well known to be one of the finest of it's generation.

Reason is I'm getting a DA*300/4 instead. I don't like the extra weight as well as losing the ease of AF with a teleconverter (SDM appears to be a bit problematic with a TC), but I need full weather sealing on my next trip, and I would hate to have a fine lens go to ruin because of the dusty circumstances I'll be using it in...

My FA*300/4.5 is in excellent state with only minor use marks on the barrel. The hood it comes with is new as I only got it a few months ago when I replaced the old one (when I busted one of the wheels it attaches with when trying it on a friend's lens that had a different mount). This allowed me to learn that my FA*300 is a latest generation one, because it had four wheels to attach the hood rather than 3 on the older ones.

The glass is absolutely mint, and as such it is the sharpest telelens I ever owned. I'm hoping the DA*300 will be as good...

It comes with a custom made tripod mount collar. I ordered this in Australia in order to mount the lens onto a tripod in a well balanced way. I works fine, although it's not perfect. You can see a similar one here on Lance's thread on the other forum:
Re: FA*300 tripod mount collar test photos x 4: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Mine had a black screw instead of a silver one, but it's identical for the rest.

Obviously, front and rear caps are included as well. No pouch however.

I'm asking EUR 750 for this excellent piece of glass (not including shipping), which should be a bargain.

Hi Wim, I just hope you won't regret the sale. Don't think I'd change mine to the DA300 although it's weather sealed.

750 Euro is a bargain for such a wonderful lens. I've said it many times before and I'd say it again: this lens makes me a better photographer. I got alot more keepers w/ this lens than any of my other lenses (and I do have a few good ones ).

I know Frank, but I need the sealing. I was hoping to get the DA*60-250/4, as that would have been complementary to the FA*300/4.5, but its being delayed has nullified that option. The DA*300/4 is the only one with sufficient reach and that makes the FA*300/4.5 redundant.

If I were to ruin the FA*300/4.5 with the dust I would regret it too much. I would rather get the DA*300 and know my FA*300 is in good hands and still being used.

kr, Wim

Giving it a little bump. I would like my FA*300 to go to a good home... Don't force me to use it in Africa, because that could result in one fine piece of Pentax glass being destroyed by dust...

Just in case some of you are waiting for me to drop the price like I have done on other items, I'm not going to on this one. If it doesn't sell at the listed price, I'll just keep it and use it...

So don't let this opportunity escape you...

This thread is another one that starts to amaze me. Such a great glass, and yet no buyers.

Hey guys, don't forget we've invented money so that it can be spent!

OFFICIALLY CLOSING THE THREAD! LENS NOT SOLD.

Ok, since no one seems interested, I'm keeping the FA*300 and postponing my DA*300 purchase... Time may have become too short now to make sure I can get the DA*300 in time and properly test it before I leave.

I'll use the FA*300 carefully in Southern Africa. Hopefully the DA*60-250/4 will be available soon after, so I'll probably go for that one then. The FA*300 may return here or not... we'll see what Pentax tells us at Photokina about long glass and TCs and so...

You guys missed out, I still have it... ;-)

Wim
