I am selling a copy of one of the sharpies prime lenses in the Pentax lineup, the Pentax F 50mm 1.7.

I marked the item as good only because the filter ring is missing a small part (see pictures). It still accept filters without any problems.

The glass is clean and free of fungus and surprising there is little dust even for its age.

The blades are snappy and free of oil.

Autofocus is good and accurate. I tested with my SF1, ZX-7 and my K10D

This lens consistently sells in **ay for $175+ as of right now.

I am including with the sale a Tiffen Haze 1 filter.

It comes with generic front cap. Sorry no rear cap. I ran out of rear caps. I do not even have some rear caps for the lenses that I own that are mounted on the cameras. I will include a generic Nikon rear cap so the lens will be protected during shipping.

An interesting bit of trivia that is not widely known is that this lens has its genesis in the Takumar 55mm f/1.8 design; the optical formula is identical. This goes back to lenses produced in the pre-set days, but perfected I believe by the time the lens was released in the Auto-Takumar Zebra form sold exclusively with the Pentax "K" of 1958.

This is quite distinct from the F 50 f/1.4 version which is founded on the (late) Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 optical design. Compare:

50mm f/1.7 and 55 f/1.8

50 f/1.4...

A lot of people assume that the f/1.7 is a down-market version of the f/1.4, and this is decidely not the case. It is it's own lens and it's a corker by all accounts.

I have used this lens for a year and always satisfied with the results like my 35 f2. Nice smooth bokeh at wide open. I wish I never sold my copy.

It is the sharpest 50 I have used, except for the FA50 macro. this one is in a league of its own.

Does the FA 50mm 1.7 have the same design as the F version? I would assume so.....

YES, except that the FA is newer but difficult to find. I wonder why is that?

got mine by luck a few months ago. never found one again up for sale. it's rarity gives me more than enough reason to keep it and not to sell, nor trade it for an FA50 1.4, nor DA40 nor a DA* 55/1.4.

I have the FA 1.7..... fantastic for portraits ! used it on my K10D for a recent wedding,very nice colors when compared to my Sigma 17-70... if you have the chance,grab that 50mm !!!!
