Shouldn't the August contest contain photos taken in August? As an astrophotographer the first clue was this is the wrong season for the constellation Orion leaning to the right. Unless my browser's photo PROPERTIES is wrong it was taken in April. Then I found photos that claim to be taken in 2006 and 2007! Of those that have the EXIF date intact about half are not from August.
The moderator's description of the August contest is, "Test your equipment and creativity by taking photographs in near darkness. Take a picture of a scene or object that is in darkness or night." Note the future tense to get Pentaxians to take a photo, not go through their hard drive looking for some old photos on subject.

There are some outstanding images in this contest. But I agree with Leo, if they were NOT taken in August then they should be disqualified. Anyone can dig around on their hard drive for their best night shot. I don't think that is the intent of THIS particular contest.
What do you think Adam?

I also I agree with this.

I've a picture in there that's from "not august", so I'm biased here.
Half of those with who left exif, seems to disagree with your understand of the future tense of the contest description. By your own numbers.
I do, kind of, see your point, but I think the main point of the contests are to give people a change to show of what's possible (with a Pentax).
I do understand that some people, like to use the contests as way to push themselves to try something new, and if you are doing that, it can seem kind of hard to have to compete with peoples entire portfolio.
But. If a rule is added saying that contest photos must be taken during the contest submission period, it will make the moderators/judges job nearly impossible. Yes, there will be photos that are obviously not from the right time (if for example, the geological position is clear from the photo, and the season is not fitting), but everything else will be a topic for endless (and worthless) debate. Exif can to easily be change to be used as evidence.
