Cool Hi from a windy Sweden

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself...

I'm a happy (far from "normal") guy from a "little" city in the west of Sweden called Lidköping (a nice harbour city divided by the outlet of the small river Lidan into Europe's largest lake: Vänern). I'm trying to run a web-business and have photography as both a large hobby and something that I'm offering for my clients.

Up till a year ago I didn't know much about (D)SLR's, even thought I did take a basic photography-course in high school and has always had it as a big interest. Then I borrowed my neighbor's Canon 400D (a great camera for "newbies"), as with everything else I get my hands on, I learned all that I could about the camera (I knew more about the cameras after a week than the owners knew after a couple of months), DSRL's in general (including aperture etc) and different shooting styles & techniques. I also developed a great interest in the "strobist way".
In the beginning of this year I got to borrow my friends K10D and was hooked (despite some of my friends repeating "mantra" that Nikon is the king). I've read and watched a lot of reviews (a lot of cameralabs.com) etc and tried to learn as much as I could about different cameras and kits.
I have settled for a Pentax K20D as I think that matches what I want/need the most for the right price.

I love (and "practice") all areas of photography: macros, portraits, landscape etc etc.

That was all from/about me for now..
I wish you all the best.
Now I'm going to sleep.

p.s. I wonder how many actually read all that :?) ds

Welcome!

Nikon or Pentax etc are just the tools, it's still up to you to create that image and i can't wait to see your little town

Absolutely true. But both a hand driven lawn mower and a motorized one are tools made for the same task. But I rather use a motorized lawn mower as it helps me do the job more efficient and with less effort (plus we have a quite large lawn), but it's still up to me to use it correctly.

Both Canon and Nikon make great cameras (and I would actually buy the Nikon D700 or a Canon Pro-model, if I could afford one...). After doing my research I found that the K20D is the tool that simply fits my preferences (how I would design menus etc) most. As I'm a programmer/software developer I think I'm more picky about how I interact with the camera (I would actually rather write my own firmware, but I have other projects with higher prio ;?).

Besides both my friend and I dislike Microsoft (He's a Apple fan/dealer, I'm a Linux fan) so I need something else to disagree with him about. As he is a huge Nikon fan and the first DSLR I used was a Canon, we started "argue" about that, but it's all for fun.

*Back to "work"* (I try to find some nice pictures of my town later... :?)
